Chapter Minutes: Heart of the Umpqua Artists June 21, 2008 Held at Tri City Church of Christ
Jeanne Swanson our President called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. with twelve (12) members in attendance. She asked for a motion to accept the minutes from the June chapter meeting as printed in the newsletter. Jean McNeese made a motion to accept the minutes as printed, Barbara Steingrobe made a second, motion carried.
Jeanne mentioned they would be sending around a sign up sheet for the Seminar. We need volunteers to clean up after the seminar or pay a clean up fee to the Community Center of $75.00. Clean up will include sweeping and mopping all of the common areas that we are using, bathrooms, kitchen, hallways and the main hall. We also need to pick up all trash and reline all of the trash cans. She does not think we will have to pull the tables down, just stack the chairs on the tables. She will ask the Duckett’s for this information. Since the seminar is potluck we will have access only to the refrigerator and the microwave. If you are bringing a hot dish you will need to bring in a crock pot or wrap well in order to keep it warm. If you forgot what you wrote down on the list, call Phyllis and get that information. We need main dishes, salads and snack and desert items for two days. Jean McNeese is bringing lemonade and Barbara Steingrobe said she would bring ice tea.
Jean McNeese 2nd V.P. reported that it was Fair Time. August 5th through August 9th are the run dates and the theme is “Its Magical”. The Board decided to man a demonstration table on August 5th since that is senior day and we just might have an opportunity to recruit some new chapter members. Jeanne, Jean and Barbara will man the table from 10 a.m. until 04 p.m. There will also be a demonstration table on Friday the 8th since there is expected to be a large attendance for the Kellie Pickler show in the evening. If you are interested in helping man the tables, Jean needs your names so she can get you a Fair pass. Barbara Steingrobe will man the table on the 8th.from 2.p.m to 4.p.m. Need someone else to help on that day. Please enter something in the Fair. The Decorative Painting section is so small, most of the time no one wants to talk to Jean about set up and layout. Nicki did mention the Decorative painters in the beginning of the category which Jean read to the chapter along with the classes we may enter items. Stormy brought up the lack of security when you come to pick up your entered pieces. Many are not entering items because of the lack of security. Discussion followed.
Barbara Steingrobe reported for Ways and Means that she did not set up for the Seminars this weekend, as her daughter wanted to take her out. The first weekend of Jamie’s seminars they set up at Treasurers of the Heart and sold 4th of July pins that Barbara had painted, ornaments and snack foods for a total of $57.00. The second weekend they sold $42.02. Helen set up at the Riddle Sawdust Festival with Stormy and Imy and sold $50.00 worth of pins and ornaments. We did not sell snack items at the Sawdust Festival, but Helen had painted 4th of July pins and sold most of them.
Barbara is looking into getting a booth at the Business Woman’s fair if she can get one at no charge as a charity. We will need many more ornaments. Barbara is having a paint-in for ornaments at her house on this coming Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Stormy asked about trees for display. Did we not have a tree to display the ornaments? She has not seen any trees. They display much nicer on trees than on a table. Chapter has a tree, Phyllis will loan a tree and Donna said she also had a tree to use for display of ornaments. .Not sure we can sell ornaments at the Business Woman’s fair, but Barbara will ask, if we can get a charity booth. Barbara will send out emails about the paint-in so everyone needs to check their email. Christmas stuff sells much better at the BWF.
Helen Fortner as Treasurer reported that she will pass out a sheet that will explain how much money we have spent, how much we have for the rest of the year and how the money was dispersed. Study for a few minutes and then ask for questions. The expenses we pay out come from uncommitted general funds. We have $5,102.55 on hand but the boxes below that show how the funds break out. We have paid out $963.00 and we have $1,200.00 for the rest of the year. I live for your hugs. Stormy got up and gave her a hug. Good job Helen
Jeanne said we needed to discuss how the money for the bottle refunds and spare change are to be handled and take a vote. Do we want the money to go to the general fund, free seminar or to the split. The ornament fundraiser is split, 25% to clothe a child, 25% to free seminar and 50% to general fund. Stormy made a motion to split the funds, 25, 25 and 50. Mary made a motion to allocate the money to the free seminar, Jean
McNeese made a second to the motion for the free seminar. Donna suggested we take a show of hands on how to allocate the funds. Do we want to think about it until after lunch or do it now. Decision was to take a show of hands now. Split received a count of six (6), free seminar received a count of five (5). The money will be allocated to the split.
A mention was made about the check for clothe a child, but it has been re-handled?
Jeanne said if you have not signed up for the free seminar, you need to sign up. It is free. Dee you need to sign up, even if it is not something you are interested in, you will learn something or maybe decide you want to try something new. All it will cost you is a pot luck dish and a piece of watercolor paper. Donna will send out an email to Siskiyou and Coast to the Cascades.
Tanya has brought in the scrapbook.
Chapter Liaison Donna White reported that she has brought in more tickets for the Roni LaBree drawing if anyone is interested in purchasing them today before we hold the drawings later. As of right now we have a total of $510.00. Jeanne commented that this committee has worked very hard on this project. Great job on this fundraiser. Jamie sent Donna an email stating that in February two weeks before the Las Vegas Convention that Cheeza would be coming to Myrtle Creek to stay. Jamie wanted to know if the Chapter would be interested in Cheeza teaching a four hour class, one of the things would be that we would have to change our Chapter date back a week, which means it would fall on Valentines Day. Belinda was going to check to see if the Church would be having a Valentine Celebration that would conflict with a class on that day. It might be possible that we would have to find another place for our class. The chapter is very interested in a class by Cheeza. Jamie will feel her out to see if she is interested in teaching a short class for us. Donna has the paintings with her for the Roni LaBree drawing so if you win you can take them with you. Drawing will be after lunch.
Jeanne mentioned that Treia our Sunshine lady was in the hospital for four days, but here she is at Chapter. Treia Stitzer our Sunshine Lady reported that no one knew she was in the hospital, other than her family. Jerry did let some people know. Barbara had a birthday on the 8th and received her card late. Treia wanted to make note that her report was not mentioned in the minutes from last month. Everyone else had a report in the newsletter but hers was not. Sunshine report was not mentioned. Imy stated that Treia had not been called on for a report, nor did she give a report, but she would check her notes and the tape from the meeting and get back to her. Imy is so sorry if the report was missed.
Jeanne wanted to remind everyone that is going to work the tables at the fair, be sure to bring a bag for trash, a container of water and something to paint.
Jeanne asked Mary Myers if she wanted to say anything about the table decorations. Today is themed meeting and there are painted jars and also several gift bags. Mary said there would be a drawing for these items later today. Mary introduced Ted Isto as our teacher for the day. Jeanne asked for a five minute break before we started our class.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:43 a.m.
Respectfully submitted, Imogene Rains Secretary, Heart of the Umpqua Artists
