“Meet Barb”

When I was a little girl I would lay on the little love seat and stare at one of my Grandma Brown’s paintings. I could see into it just like I was there. I would imagine myself sitting on one of the rocks looking across the water. I always took great pride in knowing that “my Grandma” was an artist. She gave me two books on drawing and perspective when I was about 6 or 7. In high school I loved to make posters to put on my friends lockers, for birthdays or a ‘get well’ if they were sick, but I never really chased the dream of being an artist.

When I went to college, I did take a basic design class. The best part about it was that my mother took the class also. She began to take several different art classes. I was very proud of her, but I still didn’t dive in. It was many years later, after losing my mom to lung cancer, that my husband’s Aunt Ronnie invited me to go to art class with her. Even then, I knew that once I got started my life would never be the same. How wonderfully right I was.

I have now been painting for about 7 years. My main teacher has been our very own Donna White. I have also taken classes from a multitude of other great painters. I started taking drawing classes from Letha Mithchel around three years ago. Recently I have been taking classes with Nikki McBride. I have a few painting packets, available at Treasures of the Heart in Myrtle Creek, Or. I have taught a few classes also. I am the current president of Heart of the Umpqua Artists and have been on the board since its beginning, “in one office or another”. I love painting and creating. “Thanks Aunt Ronnie for your encouragement!”
