Meet Donna I wanted to learn how to "tole paint" after I went to a craft fair in Brookings, Ore. with my mother and saw some painted items.
At the time we still lived in California and I was working full time which didn't leave much time for teaching myself how to paint. When my husband, Carl and I retired in 1992 we packed everything up and moved to Myrtle Creek. That is when I purchased supplies and two books on "how to paint" and began the process of learning to paint.
Believe me, there were lots of moments when I said to myself, "that's not right" but the more I painted, the more I discovered I wanted to paint. And that was when I knew I was hooked!
I put a few painted items for sale in a small shop in Myrtle Creek. Later we rented a booth in Brookings. The pressure was on to keep the booth filled so that meant painting a lot of hrs. each day which in turn helped me to be a better painter.
I started teaching classes only after much encouragement from Carl and have been teaching ever since. I have pattern packets for sale and teach four classes a week at a small gift shop, Treasures of the Heart that is located here in Myrtle Creek.
I also have my first painting submission accepted and published in February 2009 Issue of Quick and Easy magazine. I have been a member of the Society of Decorative Painters since 1999. I am also a member of Siskiyou Decorative Artists and the local chapter of the Heart of the Umqua Artists.
