_President

Hello my fellow painting ladies. I hope that you all had a great time at chapter trying something new with Lori Larkey. The reverse painting on glass was quite fun. Everyone had a different picture for the most part. I think there were only a couple people who chose to do the same pattern. It was fun getting the gold leaf stuck all over everything, and I do mean everything.
Next month we will be starting of the summer with Carol Oyler.  She will be teaching oils on canvas. I hope that you will be willing to again, step outside your comfort zone to try something new if you have never tried oil paint.
Until then, enjoy the warm weather and plant some beautiful gardens.

President, Heart of the Umpqua Artists

_Food-Pantry

Please remember, our chapter is very fortunate - we do not have to pay any fees to use the Tri-City Church of Christ facility. In 2009 let’s continue to show our appreciation and help support their church pantry.
In the bag, please put a list of the items you bring and their est. cost, thank you!

The totals for the food pantry for this month are: 21 pantry items for a total of $37.16

SDP_Chapter_Challenge
KSS
A letter from the SDP Board of Directors went out on April 16, (Keep Our Society Strong-KSS), sharing honest information about the Society’s current financial situation and asking our members to help out by pitching in any way that they can.

The response has been overwhelming and heartwarming! We would not expect anything less from our wonderful members. Out of the hundreds of emails we received, two were from Chapters who wished to challenge their sister Chapters to support SDP. Those challenges are reprinted below. We would be so grateful if you would take a moment to read the challenges, share them with your Chapter members, and consider accepting one of these challenges.

From Leah Luper, President of The Idaho Chapter of Heritage Artists
The Idaho Chapter of Heritage Artists is donating $500 to the KSS effort and is challenging ALL the other Chapters of SDP to do the same!  We had our monthly meeting today, discussed the email and voted 100% in favor of sending the donation. When we discussed all the things that National does for us, and how our lives have changed because of Decorative Painting, there was no other option than to support our National organization and issue this Challenge for other Chapters to do the same or more!!

We understand that Chapters come in many sizes and that a $500 donation is a lot of money! We are equally grateful for any gift you can give, and want to share the approach that another Chapter has taken. Here is the other challenge that we were asked to send you:

From Gloria Falk TDA, President of Gateway Decorative Artists of Greater St. Louis , Mo.
Since the news came out that SDP could sure use some extra funds, we brought it up at our meeting last Sunday. The Chapter voted to send a donation to SDP. Someone spoke up and said, "What if every member here today would donate a $1? That would be easy on everyone and it would help SDP." We passed the hat and everyone chipped in. We'll do it again at our next meeting with a goal of raising a nice sum to send in from the chapter.
We would like to challenge every chapter to do this! If everyone who attends chapter meetings donates just $1 it will make a difference. For without SDP, we wouldn't be where we are today.
Will you send our CHALLENGE out to the other chapters?

Thank you, again, for your consideration.
Together we will get through the tough times the way we always do: as a family!
The Board of Directors and Staff of the Society of Decorative Painters
