Well, if we weren't ready for the beach after last month, I imagine we surely are now. I had a wonderful time with Nikki McBride painting waves splashing against the rocks. The only thing keeping me from the beach this weekend was the drop back down in temp. I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to cold weather. I really enjoyed looking at the photos of chapter. Everyone’s pictures looked absolutely great. I got permission to make copies of the step-by-step photos on dvd discs. If you would like one please send me an e-mail and let me know. I can bring them to chapter next month. Nikki said she was impressed by how quickly we learned the new techniques. I was happy to have finally had a chance to have a class from her. She was a great teacher. I was also happy with the level of respect that was showed to her. Thank you all for being on your best behavior. I know we can get a little silly some times.
Next month we get to try our hand at yet another new experience, reverse painting on glass, with Lori Larkey. I like to try new things. I cant jump out of airplanes or go bungee jumping with my bad back, so this is going to have to be as crazy as I get. Well maybe not,” as crazy”, but you know. It's good to try something new once in a while. I hope to see you all there. Till then---- have a good month and paint yourself an ocean or two.

If you save the pick that comes with your flower arrangements (the one that holds the card), you can place the photo from your class into the pick and then stick it in with your brushes - it keeps your photo handy and prevents it from getting paint and water on it. (Also great for holding recipes!) |

(If you have a favorite Tip, Recipe or Newsy Item of interest to all...or if there is a feature you would like to see in the newsletter, please send it in to the newsletter editor, thank you.) |

Please remember, our chapter is very fortunate - we do not have to pay any fees to use the Tri-City Church of Christ facility. In 2009 let’s continue to show our appreciation and help support their church pantry. In the bag, please put a list of the items you bring and their est. cost, thank you!
The totals for the food pantry for this month are 37 items for a total of $42.74

A letter from the SDP Board of Directors went out on April 16, (Keep Our Society Strong-KSS), sharing honest information about the Society’s current financial situation and asking our members to help out by pitching in any way that they can.
The response has been overwhelming and heartwarming! We would not expect anything less from our wonderful members. Out of the hundreds of emails we received, two were from Chapters who wished to challenge their sister Chapters to support SDP. Those challenges are reprinted below. We would be so grateful if you would take a moment to read the challenges, share them with your Chapter members, and consider accepting one of these challenges.
From Leah Luper, President of The Idaho Chapter of Heritage Artists The Idaho Chapter of Heritage Artists is donating $500 to the KSS effort and is challenging ALL the other Chapters of SDP to do the same! We had our monthly meeting today, discussed the email and voted 100% in favor of sending the donation. When we discussed all the things that National does for us, and how our lives have changed because of Decorative Painting, there was no other option than to support our National organization and issue this Challenge for other Chapters to do the same or more!!
We understand that Chapters come in many sizes and that a $500 donation is a lot of money! We are equally grateful for any gift you can give, and want to share the approach that another Chapter has taken. Here is the other challenge that we were asked to send you:
From Gloria Falk TDA, President of Gateway Decorative Artists of Greater St. Louis , Mo. Since the news came out that SDP could sure use some extra funds, we brought it up at our meeting last Sunday. The Chapter voted to send a donation to SDP. Someone spoke up and said, "What if every member here today would donate a $1? That would be easy on everyone and it would help SDP." We passed the hat and everyone chipped in. We'll do it again at our next meeting with a goal of raising a nice sum to send in from the chapter. We would like to challenge every chapter to do this! If everyone who attends chapter meetings donates just $1 it will make a difference. For without SDP, we wouldn't be where we are today. Will you send our CHALLENGE out to the other chapters?
Thank you, again, for your consideration. Together we will get through the tough times the way we always do: as a family! The Board of Directors and Staff of the Society of Decorative Painters
