April 19 Chapter Minutes:
The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by our Chapter President Jeanne Swanson with thirteen members in attendance.
Jeanne asked for a motion to accept the minutes as printed in the newsletter. Motion made by Donna White to accept minutes as printed, second made by Jean McNeese, motion carried.
Jeanne mentioned that our newsletter editor, Stormy Speaker, has resigned due to personal reasons so May will be her last edition, at which time Jamie Mills-Price will take over that position. The deadline will remain the same so get the information to Stormy by Friday April 25th to be included in the May newsletter. Stormy will still be responsible for the picture trail so expect to see pictures from chapter and seminars on the web.
Treia Stitzer our Sunshine Lady reported that birthday cards are in the mail for all that have birthdays this month. She also said she had mailed a sympathy card and birthday card to Mary Myers.
Ways and Means chairperson Barbara Steingrobe opened her report with a suggestion from her husband for a fundraising activity. She would really like to jump right on this, since this is the first time he has indicated any interest in her painting activities. Jim volunteered to take pictures and sell unwanted painted items of good quality on E Bay for the members of chapter that would donate the monies to Chapter as a fundraiser. If you have some items in the back closet or where ever that you would like to donate, please bring them to Barbara. We can have our own on line craft sale. She will send out an email about this to members.
J & J Fabrics in Canyonville is having a Quilt Shop Hop April 25 through May 3rd. She has volunteered to sell ornaments during this event for us. We need to price the ornaments in even dollar increments, no cents. She has also extended this offer to sell ornaments year around as long as we keep getting her ornaments. She presently is selling dish cloths year around for us. We need to send Judy Cuthbertson a thank you card from the Chapter for doing this for us. Belinda Legg from Treasurers has also volunteered to sell ornaments at her booth during the Christmas Fair for our Chapter. She has also offered us set up room to sell ornaments and bake sale items at the shop during Jamie’s seminars this summer. We will have to man the tables during this time, so we will need a sign up sheet and volunteers to help during this time. Barbara has information concerning what we can sell as bake sale items.
Fundraiser monies at present include $30.00 for egg sales from J&J Fabrics, $107.10 for 18 eggs sold at Treasurers of the Heart, $3.87 for can refunds and we earned $16.55 for the Athena brush sales. We are still recycling cell phones and ink cartridges, so continue to bring them in.
Ronnie and Barbara are not selling this year at the Summer Art Festival. They are having a Craft sale in Ronnie’s driveway, so if anyone wants to sell any items, you have to price, pack, deliver and unpack your items. You do not have to man a table. Ronnie and Barbara will sell for you, so if you’re interested, let them know. Date will be in July, but Ronnie will have to consult with Peter to finalize a sale date Imy and Stormy said they would take the tree and ornaments to the Riddle Sawdust Festival on the 4th of July, so we hope to sell some there. We are still actively trying to raise money for our free seminar with Sue Eakin, so every sale counts. At present it looks like we will have enough for the free seminar. Phyllis will have more information about that. 1st V.P. Mary Myers has a lot to deal with since Frank passed away, so Phyllis Lynch has graciously taken her place with the seminar planning and budgeting. Phyllis did say we have enough for the seminar, but we will have to pay $15.00 each for lunch unless we pot luck both days. She would like a vote today with the members present to see what they think. The projects are on the back table, please look at them, if you are attending the seminar please pick a two day project or two one day projects. The majority will rule, but she will be bringing the projects back next month for the members that are not here today. We need to decide if we want sandwiches and salad the first day and potato bar the second or pot luck both days. Show of hands indicates we want pot luck both days. Phyllis will work out a menu and sign up sheet for the seminar attendees. She will also price out the surface cost depending on the project chosen. If we are unable to fill all seminar spots, we will need to open to other painters or Chapters. She will also have to figure their cost for the seminar. The seminar will be held September 27th and 28th at the Riddle Community Center.
Treasurer Helen Fortner said there is $4,481.09 in total, $4,042.25 in Money Market account and $438.84 in our checking account.
2nd V.P. Jean McNeese announced that a new member roster has been emailed to all members. There were some corrections, so expect another roster to be emailed soon.
She asked all members to consider entering a painted item in the Fair this year. The Douglas County Fair will start the first of August; she will have the date soon. She is working to have all the Decorative Painting pieces in one spot so we can see who we are being judged against. She would like all first places on one shelf, second on the next and so on. Not sure she will get it, but she will try. No decision has been made about manning a table or having a demonstration as yet.
Chapter Liaison Donna White has information and a catalog of classes available from the Northwest Tole Liners Convention to be held September 18th through September 21st if any members are interested in attending. Ladybug Jan McCraw has a free pattern on her website, Ladybugcreations.com for a program she started called Treasure Boxes. These boxes hold the toys for the children at all Shriner Hospitals while they are there for treatment for illnesses. The boxes fit in the bedside table drawers. Jamie also has a link on her website, as well as two patterns for the treasure boxes. SDP has a CD for sale at $10.00 that has patterns for Treasurer Boxes and Memory Boxes.
Raindrop Chapter is having a seminar May 3rd and 4th, but it is probably too late to get a seat. There has been information the last two months for this seminar. Joanne Clark and Kathy Chambers have a seminar July 19th and 20th. Ronnie Bringle is having a three day seminar May 16th through the 18th. See Donna for information on these seminars if you are interested.
Donna said we have $160 in ticket sales so far for the Roni LaBree drawing. She had Stormy attach pictures of the Roni LaBree paintings to her email to Sheila at SDP explaining what we are doing and why to see if she would include the information to chapter happenings. Donna has not received an answer as yet. Donna has tickets with her if anyone is interested in purchasing any today.
Stormy asked to speak. She wants to thank everyone for their support in the past. She thanked Jamie for taking the Website to the next level and also for stepping up as newsletter editor. Stormy will be doing the May Newsletter so please get the information to her as soon as possible. Stormy will still be responsible for the picture trail. Nuff said. On a personal note, she thanked Donna and Phyllis for donating door prizes for her volunteer project, Adult Project Literacy. They are having a fund raiser May 14th at 7:00 p.m. at Rose Auditorium at Roseburg High School. The event is called Pony Up. Music will be provided by the Slow Ponies a musical group started by the Applegate family. Still need donations for door prizes if anyone would be interested in donating anything.
Jeanne said she has not sent any memory boxes out this month as Marie has not been available to tell her where they need to be sent.
Jeanne also brought the floor cloth project mats so please pick up one before you leave as they do need prep work before next chapter meeting. There are also memory boxes on the table if any one wants any more to paint.
Jeanne explained the project to be taught by Helen Fortner. Smooshing. The bottles have already been prepped and the process is very easy and fun. Do not stress, it also is freehand but easy. An example of the bottle was sent around.
Jeanne introduced Phyllis to demonstrate the ornament stamping and embossing project for today.
Meeting was adjourned. Respectfully submitted Imogene Rains, Secretary
