President’s Message:
Alas, I had to leave Helen’s wonderful lesson early. The morning part of the session was wonderful and I fully intend to meet up with her and finish the lesson. Thank you so much Helen!
September is our Seminar month. We have a great lesson to look forward to there. Sue Eakin is a wonderful teacher and I think she will be enjoyed by all.
By the way, the wedding was on the 23rd and turned out to be the fairy princess wedding the bride and groom had hoped for I had great fun but will be glad to return to a more regular schedule.

Smiles, Jeanne Swanson
President, Heart of the Umpqua Artists

Chapter Minutes:
Heart of the Umpqua Artists
August 16th, 2008
Held at Tri City Church of Christ

The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. by our President Jeanne Swanson with thirteen (13) people in attendance.

Jeanne has no agenda today, it was suggested she use the Board agenda, but there was no Board meeting this month. Jeanne asked for a motion to accept minutes from last meeting as printed in the newsletter, Barbara said she had a correction for the minutes. It was stated that she would work with Jean and Jeanne at Senior Day at the Douglas County Fair. Barbara was working on Friday the eighth not Senior Day so that needs to be corrected.  Helen Fortner made a motion to accept the corrected minutes as reported. Second was made by Joni Brooks, motion was carried.

Jeanne wanted to remind everyone about the seminar. Stormy said she had talked to Donna White, Sue Eakin will provide the boards mentioned in the supply list as she needs to stretch the watercolor paper to the boards. The final count for the watercolor seminar is fifteen (15). Discussion was held by some concerning watercolor.

Jeanne mentioned the current issue of Decorative Painting has the renewal form for next year inside the front cover. Membership is due October 1st. Those that do not renew online should get the forms in soon. Treia mentioned the coupon from Joanne’s is good for a year for 10% off to all SDP members. It will need to be signed by a store manager after proof of membership to SDP is provided. Jeanne indicated there are a number of companies that give discounts listed on the SDP website.

Jeanne asked for reports, Barbara Steingrobe reported for Ways and Means that they had set up at Treasures of the Heart after Jamie’s last seminar, but they didn’t sell anything. Jean will be reporting for the Fair.

Jean McNeese 2nd V.P. reported that there were only three chapter members that entered pieces in the Fair. Barbara Steingrobe, Jean McNeese and Karen Mills-Price entered pieces. Barbara received a ribbon for first and second. Jean received ribbons for first and second. Karen received ribbons for first, second and third.

Everyone commented that the displays were much smaller in all categories this year. There were much fewer entries in all categories this year compared to last year.

Helen Fortner, Treasurer reported we have $1,053.48 in the business checking account, $4,055.78 in the Money Market account for a total of $5,109.26 in our treasury. Thank you, thank you.

Jean McNeese said she had forgotten to mention that Nina Daniels had several entries in the fair, but since she no longer belongs to us, she forgot to write down what she had received.

Joni Brooks reported that they had entered items at the Josephine County Fair. Guest Dava Pogue had received Peoples Choice Award, guest Debbie Raska received 2nd place for a Jamie piece and that Joni had received Best of Class for the Karen Hubbard Blue Heron that she had painted. Judy Clark then mentioned that her guest Judy Kelley was a Pastel Artist and had received four blue ribbons at the Douglas County Fair.

Jeanne then acknowledged that we had several guests today. Judy Clark had Nina Daniels and Judy Kelley as guests. Joni Brooks had sisters, Dava Pogue and Debbie Raska as guests. Welcome ladies.

Jeanne mentioned that Donna White was teaching at Siskiyou, Phyllis Lynch was visiting Mom and Dad in California and Stormy mentioned that Jamie was at a family reunion, so did anyone else have any reports.

Sunshine Lady Treia Stitzer reported she had two (2) birthdays this month, Judy Clark and Stormy Speaker. They have both received their drawing tickets. She also told Stormy to write that down. Stormy stated that if you get called on and give a report, you get mentioned in the minutes. Stormy said thank you to Treia, she got her card early. Card arrived on Thursday and her birthday was Saturday. She said it was very cute.

Since there was no other business the meeting was adjourned at 10:15 a.m. so Helen Fortner could teach the class her smooshing technique on glass bottles.

Notes were taken by Stormy Speaker since Secretary was unable to attend.

Respectfully submitted,
Imogene Rains
Secretary, Heart of the Umpqua Artists
